It’s All About – Bold Brows

July 04, 2013

Bigger, bolder, natural brows have made a huge comeback over the last couple years but I personally find it hard to fully embrace this fuller look. After years of plucking and preening my eyebrows into all sorts of archful shapes the idea of letting them get wild and wooly is a little scary.

It is undeniable though that a strong brow gives the face a more youthful appearance as well as creating the perfect frame for the eyes. So if you would like to amp up the look of your brows with a little less commitment than going au naturel here a few tips you might like to try.

1. Tweezerman Stainless Steel Slant Tweezers

One of the originals and still one of the best when it comes to eyebrow grooming tools. Over the years I’ve tried numerous tweezers but I always come back to these. The Tweezerman tweezers are perfectly aligned with a hand filed tip which ensures you can grip each individual hair with real precision making the removal even of stubborn brows an easy task. Always pluck your eyebrows in natural light which will allow you to get rid of every stray as well as ensure you don’t accidentally remove too much!

To work out where your eyebrow should begin you can hold a pencil or makeup brush vertically along the side of your nose and where it crosses the inner corner of your brow this is where they should start. You can use a disposable mascara brush to comb your brows upwards and trim any excess length off them which will keep them looking neat and will help them to hold their shape.

When plucking try and follow the natural shape of your brow and just get rid of the strays both below and above your eyebrows.

2. Nars Brow Shader Eyebrow Brush

This eyebrow brush is made of badger hair which gives it density but also texture both necessary to create the perfect brow shape. The firm control it gives allows you to deposit the colour in a feathering effect creating a more natural result.

3. Nars Blondie Eyeshadow

A matte neutral taupe which is the perfect universal brow shade for almost all hair tones. I personally use this on myself and I’m naturally a dark brunette but this also works on everyone from dark, to fair hair types.

Using a light touch with your brow brush letting the shadows pigment coat your eyebrows (not your skin) and always making sure your brushing in the direction of the hair’s growth.

4. Nars Bali Eyeshadow

For those with black/brown and true black hair this dark matte taupe shade is the most natural tone for your eyebrows.

People whose head hair is thick, dark and lustrous but eyebrow hairs are more sparse can use this product safely without fear of creating overly dramatic or harsh looking brows.

When applying the shadow focus the product on the outer half of the brow first which will give it the most definition and then run the remainder of the pigment through the inner corner of the eyebrow to achieve the most natural result.

It’s All About – Braids, Braids, Braids

This hair trend has made a huge comeback over the last couple years. I must say I did at first shy away from jumping onto the braid bandwagon.
